My Story

I've spent the last couple of years really trying to understand all of the privileges I have in life, and learn to be grateful for them. One major one that I used to take for granted, but now appreciate every time I turn on my tap, is clean and safe drinking water. I am so privileged to have never been made sick from bad drinking water, never had to expend time or energy to find safe water, and never had to lose someone I love to water borne disease.

To support my wonderful friend Ruth Walker in her Swim Marathon challenge this year, I've decided to join her in support of Water Aid and do the Half Marathon challenge. Ruth has taught me so much about being kind, understanding and generous, and I wouldn't be the person I am today without her. I'm hoping to raise £10 for every kilometre I swim, so please support me and/or Ruth in our efforts to raise money for this great charity. Everyone should share in the basic human right to a decent standard of living, which includes access to clean and safe drinking water.

The overall aim of the Swim Marathon is to help raise funds for the 1 in 10 people who don't have clean water close to home. Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene should be a normal part of everyone's daily life. Without all three, people can't live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.
